New eco-friendly electric boat tours for Rideau Canal

A new eco-friendly boat tour program will offer a unique cruising experience for tourists and locals along the downtown portion of the Rideau Canal.

The locally built, state-of-the-art electric boats will host daytime tours and other special events. The first boat, The Queen Elizabeth Dr., will begin operations in time for Canada Day. The second, The Colonel By, will be launched in time for the 2017 season.

The boats will be in operation following a one-year hiatus, the first time there were no tours on the canal since 1949 when Paul’s Boat Lines first launched. The company cancelled tours in the spring of 2015 after it was unable to reach a long-term lease with Parks Canada.

Great news for local tourism, jobs and the economy all while helping keep our lakes clean.

Race to Alaska to begin this Sunday: 750 miles, no motors, no support.

Race to Alaska endurance boat race will kick off this Sunday June 26th at noon. "750 miles, no motors, no support" all the way from from Victoria, B.C. to Ketchikan, Alaska. This race is not for everyone! Last year 35 boats started the race and only 15 finished. This year 65 boats will participate, the first place team winning $10,000. Second place wins a set of steak knives.

Courtesy of Race to Alaska:

The inside passage to Alaska has been paddled by native canoes since time immemorial, sailing craft for centuries, and after someone found gold in the Klondike the route was jammed with steamboats full of prospectors elbowing each other out of the way for the promise of fortune.

It’s in the spirit of tradition, exploration, and the lawless self-reliance of the gold rush that Race to Alaska was born. R2AK is the first of its kind and North America’s longest human and wind powered race, and currently the largest cash prize for a race of its kind.

It’s like the Iditarod, on a boat, with a chance of drowning, being run down by a freighter, or eaten by a grizzly bear.

There are squalls, killer whales, tidal currents that run upwards of 20 miles an hour, and some of the most beautiful scenery on god’s green earth.

You can track the race online, here: http://tracker.r2ak.com/

Client Review: 2002 Rinker 342 Fiesta Vee

Congratulations to Tony and Gale on their recent purchase of an exquisite 2002 Rinker 342 Fiesta Vee. We wish them many great times out on the water in their new boat! We thank them for their thoughtful review of our service:

Adrian,

I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of my wife and I for all of the help yesterday. You were fair, honest and accommodating. You went the extra mile to make sure that I was completely familiar with the boat and as a first time boat buyer, that is so important.

I would definitely recommend you to anyone looking to buy a boat.

Thank you so much!! Best wishes for the future.

Regards,

Tony & Gale
